We have all found ourselves in a very unusual time. Whether you are starting a new job, University, working from home or perhaps taking on another challenge, one thing is for sure and that is ‘the new normal’ still feels a little strange. It is safe to say 2020 hasn’t really gone to plan, but that doesn’t mean it has gone to waste! We are constantly finding new ways to connect and communicate.

So, in honour of the rollercoaster that is the year 2020, here are our top 5 picks on how to stay connected with friends and family. Because if we can’t be together face to face, there are ways to send a virtual hug!

Send A Letter

Make A Book Club

If your friendship group can’t meet up together at the moment, then you might want a hobby to keep you all connected! Why not start a book club! Take it in turns with your besties to pick a good book and then you can discuss it weekly on zoom with a glass of wine… or two. With all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it is sometimes so hard to fit time to read, however, all your chums reading the same book is sure to keep you motivated! You will be begging them all to not give you spoilers!

Plan a Movie Marathon

If you can’t watch your favourite movies together, why not plan a movie marathon and make sure you are watching simultaneously. Spend some time planning your favourites, whether it’s a film that makes you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside, a laugh out loud or perhaps a thriller! You could stay on zoom throughout the movie, or message each other a running commentary throughout. Top tip: Make sure you have a selection of delicious snacks!

Collaborate A Playlist

Music soothes the soul, so no matter if you are in the mood for a dance or maybe a little pick me up, there is nothing like a good song. Why not collaborate a feel-good playlist with your friends, include all of your favourites so that when you are feeling a little blue, just hit play and you won’t feel so far apart.

Check-In As Much As You Can

And last but definitely not least; Build checking in on your friends into your routine, whether it’s a good morning or good night message, it is so important to let loved ones know you are thinking of them. You might have time for a lengthy phone call or perhaps just a simple ‘I hope you are doing okay’ whatever it may be, we need to look out for each other. Just remember, it is okay to not always feel okay, but with great friends, we can do anything.
