Water, Water and More Water

Every cell in your body depends on water to survive. Water is needed to maintain temperature, remove waste and lubricate your joints and can even make your skin look extra fabulous. On average people need around 8-10 glasses to stay hydrated. Still, the exact amount you will need depends on a variety of factors like your age, the amount of physical activity you do, the climate and your diet.

But life does get hectic; you can get so wrapped up in the hustle and bustle by the time you hit the pillow you may have only managed 1 or 2 glasses of water, which isn't nearly enough! But worry not, drinking water doesn't have to be a chore.

Simply grab your notebook and put pen to paper, not only does this stimulate your mind, but this will act as a reminder for all the water you need to drink. Draw yourself a bottle or a glass and add in as my columns as glasses of water you want to drink. Here we have illustrated eight glasses, but if you're going to drink slightly more or less than that a day, then tailer the graph to suit you. Next, choose a colour that speaks to you and scribble in a drop every time you drink another glass until you've reached your goal!

You will gain a sense of achievement each time you reach your target! Not only are you staying hydrated, but the act of setting yourself goals and achieving them will benefit your mental health and contribute to the art of mindfulness.

Still struggling to drink water? Here are some Top Tips on how to get the job done.

  1. Keep a bottle of water with you throughout the day.
  2. If you find the taste of plain water boring, add some flavour such as cucumber slices, lemon slices or mint.
  3. When you’re feeling hungry, drink water. Thirst is often confused with hunger. Real hunger will not be satisfied by drinking water, so if this is the case, you may then hit the snack cupboard.
